It was second nature to him, the way he communicated and flashed the images at the doe. The innate way that he "spoke" was natural to him and when the ones of this land, Idris, spoke to him using their mouths it was always just a tiny bit jarring. Her spoken reassurances drew his eyes downward to her mouth as he watched the way the sounds worked themselves out from between her lips. It was an interesting thing but he wouldn't make the same mistake as he had at the landing, he knew better than to try to speak as they did. So, he continued his ruminating but the smile still remained as did the general atmosphere. To her reassurance he gave a nod of his head, a simple dip of his antlers in gratitude and understanding.
Her next words were a question and to convey who he was would need more than a sense of emotion or an image. He spoke but without moving his mouth. The words were telepathic as he bridged the gap from his mind to hers with a one-way flow of information. >>Valentine.<< One simple name for he could not remember the rest or whether he'd had a surname to begin with. It was disconcerting, to say the least.
Not to allow a lapse in the flow of information he reached out again with an image of herself coupled with that feeling of curiosity and inquiry as before. A name for a name, that was customary, yes? At least that was how he knew it to be just as he knew how to speak without speaking. A thought occurred to him then... If all of the creatures here preferred words... Should he use words now? He seemed to be thinking for a moment, his three eyes all thoughtful as he contemplated this but decided to continue on the route he was on. Why change when she seemed to be interpreting just fine? Besides, he had to admit how amusing it was to see how far he would be allowed to get before she called him on his bluff so to speak.
